This particular franchise restaurant is everywhere in Japan. The restaurant advertisement is usually very flamboyant. You can not miss it even when you are in the most bustling areas in Tokyo or Osaka.

A quick 5-minute walk from the JR Shinjuku station east exit, my friend and I arrived at the Kani Doraku Shinjuku Honten Restaurant. The main restaurant in Shinjuku East was nicely decorated in tradition tatami mat. Their female waitress were in traditional Kimono.

Kani Doraku crab restaurant pictorial menu was very helpful. I picked my course meal based on the price because all of the lunch course pictures looked very similar. The lunch menu is relatively more affordable when compared to their dinner counterpart.

This bowl of flavored water was meant for washing your hands before and after touching crab.

Appetizer was steamed crab legs with special vinegar dipping sauce.

Raw crab sashimi. Only fresh crab meat can be served as sashimi style. Fresh raw crab meat is full of sweet flavor.

Chawanmushi steamed egg with crab meat. This is one of my favorite Japanese dishes. Soft steam egg was infused with seafood flavor broth.

Creamy crab meat croquette. Delicate seafood umami flavor in creamy white sauce.

Crab meat gratin. Baked crab meat, cheese and special sauce baked to perfection. It was perhaps the heaviest seasoned dish in my course meal.

Seasoned rice was cooked to perfection in Kamameshi style.

Crab Kamameshi rice can be turned into Ochazuke style, in which real wasabi, shredded dried seaweed were added on rice and the bowl was infused with special dashi soup.

Finished off the course with Japanese vanilla ice cream with freshly whisked Matcha green tea. The green tea was whisked by kimono waitress right before the dessert was served. The bitter sweet taste was very sophisticated where the mild sweetness of the ice cream was accentuated by the slight bitterness of the Matcha green tea.

Overall, it was an amazing dining experience at the crab specialty restaurant. Their lunch course ranges from 3000 to 4000 yen per person while dinner goes from 5,000 to 10,000 yen.
